Emerald City Supporters

In early 2005 a group of Seattle Sounders supporters gathered at Burgermaster near the University of Washington. Out of that meeting several key events for the group would take root.
First came a off-season party with the players, next came a name change to officially be called the "Emerald City Supporters." The move away from the Orca and the nickname "The Pod" was not unanimous, but had a strong majority. As the 2005 season got underway the "ECS" had several matches with very good attendance. Polls were conducted on SounderCentral.com to pick the colors of the ECS. The club colors, plus white, were chosen.
Another poll was posted to vote on the slogan of the ECS. The landslide winner was "No Equal," submitted by David Falk.
Colby Stott designed the Emerald City crest (seen above) based on input from members via the forum. The introduction of ECS scarves and the subsequent 4-2 win over Portland on national TV at Starfire Sports Complex gave the Emerald City a sense of becoming bigger, better and even more involved in the world of the Sounders.
A late-season trip to Portland included getting enough traveling support to rent a bus. The first batch of ECS scarves sold out almost immediately and more were ordered to try to keep up with demand.
The Sounders marched through the 2005 playoffs and captured the USL-1 Championship at Qwest Field on October 1st. The match with Richmond ended 1-1 and Seattle claimed the Cup 4-3 in Penalty Kicks.
The Emerald City Supporters of course were there, and also joined many of the players in celebration after the match.
New Emerald City Supporters shield crest honoring 3 league championships arrived in October, 2005.
