Expansion Draft

The 2009 Expansion Draft will be held at the end of November after MLS Cup. Sounders FC will be allowed to pick 10 unprotected players total from current MLS club rosters.

2009 MLS Superdraft

The 2009 MLS Superdraft will take place in January. Sounders FC have the first pick in each round of the best college players. Most will be seniors, but it is possible that underclassmen will be eligible under the Generation Adidas platform.

Major League Soccer Roster Rules & Terms

MLS has a complicated set of rules and regulations regarding club rosters. The league is centrally run, which means that while clubs have say in who they sign, all player contracts and salaries are approved and then paid by the league office. There is a salary cap along with numerous ways clubs can get the players they want or need.
